The Wilbury Group will present the RI premiere of the award-winning rock musical, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, and a book by Alex Timbers, July 12-28 2012 in a new performance space at the beautifully restored Butcher Block Mill Building, 25 Eagle Street, Providence.

Directed by Wilbury Group producer Josh Short (Director, The Lieutenant of Inishmore at The Wilbury Group) & David Tessier
(Musical Director, Hedwig & the Angry Inch at Perishable Theatre), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson uses a raucous blend of infectious rock and roll and outrageous comedy to tell a mostly true/partly fictional tale of our nation's highly controversial seventh president. On the way, the audiences witnesses the role of American populism in shaping our history through the story of the man who invented the Democratic Party, doubled the size of our nation, and sent thousands of Native American's on the Trail of Tears.

Featuring Joe Short (Padraic, The Lieutenant of Inishmore) as the audacious Andrew Jackson, The Wilbury Group production includes an ensemble of some of Providence's most talented actors, including Kelly Siegh (as Martin Van Buren), Dave Rabinow (Henry Clay), Stuart Wilson (John Quincy Adams), Brien Lang (John Calhoun) & Alyssa Gorgone as Jackson's long-suffering wife, Rachel.

Written by Alex Timbers with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson was called "an intriguing, often outrageous look at American history, filtered through the satiric eye of Timbers and Friedman's pulsating rock score" by the Associated Press and received rave reviews during its Off Broadway run. The New York Post called it "irreverent and subversive" and the Daily News said it was"offbeat, fresh and fun!" Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson was nominated for two Tony Awards and won the 2012 Outer Critics' Circle Award and the 2011 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical.
