Tickets Go on Sale for Trinity Rep's 49th Season, 8/25

Trinity Rep has announced that single tickets for all six shows of its 2012-2013 regular season – King Lear, The How and the Why, Crime and Punishment, Social Creatures, and House & Garden will go on sale to the public beginning Saturday, August 25.

Ticket prices start at $28 for all regular season shows, with discounted tickets starting at $22. Tickets can be purchased online at www.trinityrep.com, by phone at 401-351-4242, or at the Trinity Rep Box Office at 201 Washington St. in Providence. Great discounts for groups are available, as well as additional discounts for students, educators, seniors and more. Subscriptions are also on sale, so theater fans can take advantage of greater access, flexibility, and perks with substantial discounts off of full single ticket prices.

Trinity Rep's epic season kicks off with King Lear, playing Sept. 13 to Oct. 21 in the Dowling Theater. A co-production with the Dallas Theater Center, directed by Kevin Moriarty, and starring Acting Company member Brian McEleney as the aging king, Lear is the story of betrayal, loss, hope, and redemption, each generation betraying another, until even nature itself revolts. Shakespeare's sweeping tragedy is followed by the fast and witty, engrossing and powerful new play The How and the Whyby Sarah Treem (of HBO's In Treatment), directed by Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Directing graduate Shana Gozansky, and running in the Dowling Theater from Nov. 29 to Dec. 30.

The centerpiece of our Project Discovery educational program will be Artistic Director Curt Columbus' adaptation of Crime and Punishment, running Jan. 17 to Feb. 24 in the Dowling Theater. Dostoyevsky's classic psychological novel has been spun into a ninety-minute, three-actor tour-de-force, produced to worldwide acclaim since 2002. Following this modern re-telling is Social Creatures, a world premiere by Brown MFA graduate Jackie Sibblies Drury. Trinity Repertory Company commissioned and developed this sidesplitting "dramedy," with and for our resident Acting Company, and it promises to be a strangely beautiful, beautifully strange glimpse into the final attempts at preserving human civilization and the world as we know it. Directed by Curt Columbus, Social Creatures takes up residence in the Dowling Theater March 14 to April 21.

We close our season with what surely promises to be the theatrical event of the season: a pair of interlocking comedies taking place simultaneously, with one cast performing both shows in two different theaters at the same time. Written by Alan Ackybourn and directed by Acting Company member Brian McEleney, House & Garden has the actors racing from House (in the Dowling Theater downstairs) to Garden (in the Chace Theater upstairs) while the lucky audience stays put, seeing each production one at a time, in either order, at separate performances. Both are chock-full of Ayckbourn's wacky characters, gin-soaked truths, topsy-turvy story, and run from May 16 to June 30.

Returning for the holidays will be Trinity Rep's annual holiday production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Caroldirected by Tyler Dobrowsky, andstarring Acting Company member Timothy Crowe as Ebenezer Scrooge. Tickets for A Christmas Carol will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, Sept. 22, but are available for subscribers now.

Since its founding in 1963, Trinity Repertory Company has been one of the most respected regional theaters in the country. Featuring the last permanent resident Acting Company in America, Trinity Rep presents a balance of world premiere, contemporary, and classic works for an estimated annual audience of approximately 120,000. In its 49-year history, the theater has produced 61 world premieres, mounted national and international tours, and, through its MFA program, trained hundreds of new actors and directors. This season marks the 46th year of Project Discovery, Trinity Rep's pioneering educational outreach program. Each year, Trinity Rep's educational programs reach nearly 15,000 Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut students through matinees as well as in-school residencies and workshops. Brown University/Trinity Rep offers professional training for actors and directors in a three-year MFA program. Trinity Rep's 49th Season will present six subscription productions alongside the annual holiday production of A Christmas Carol. The 2012-2013 Season opens with a co-production with Dallas Theater Center of King Lear by William Shakespeare; The How and the Why by Sarah Treem; Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, adapted by Curt Columbus and Marilyn Campbell; Social Creatures by Jackie Sibblies Drury and House & Garden, an epic duo of interconnected plays by Alan Ayckbourn performed simultaneously in our upstairs and downstairs theaters. For more information, call the box office at (401) 351-4242 or visit Trinity Rep's website at www.trinityrep.com.
